Portland and dark, winding road

We punched out of Hermiston, having not had to use the hatchet overnight, and also having done laundry to save us from total embarassment. We had to make it from the northeast corner of Oregon to the southwest corner, by way of Portland.

Portland was a total success, Lynn having found a single origin coffee bar. This means that the coffee is from a single something or other, not having been blended with coffee from other something or others. Anyway, it's supposed to make the coffee extra good, so we went. Going to a coffee bar one time and wanting to taste everything is like going to a scotch tasting, but with the opposite effect. Lynn and I shared six coffees between us, with my adenosine receptors taking the biggest hit of the two of us. Of course the coffee was deliciously procured, roasted, and brewed. It was some of the best coffee I've ever had.

After the coffee bar was a food truck "pod", where Lynn and I discovered that not everyone works as hard as in the DC area. No ideas how these people keep themselves from starving, but they made some pretty good food and it was good fun for us.

The day was capped off with a night drive on US 199 from Grant's Pass to Crescent City. Go ahead. Look at it on google maps. Then imagine it at night with redwood trees looming as punishment for mistakes. In a poorly handling minivan. With tired kids wanting to get to the hotel. I will sleep well tonight.
